This is <\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">apparent in the data: with those who have less than two <\/span><span class=\"a\">years of experience was 28 percent, an increase from 17 <\/span><span class=\"a\">percent 2015. The median years of experience in real estate <\/span><span class=\"a\">was 10 years. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff4\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span class=\"a\">Additionally, tenure at firm was a median of <\/span><span class=\"a\">four years. <\/span><span class=\"a\">The median age of REALTORS\u00ae remained at 53 in the 2017 <\/span><span class=\"a\">survey, the same as last year and the lowest it has been since <\/span><span class=\"a\">2008 when the median age was 52. The median age held <\/span><span class=\"a\">steady between 56 and 57 from 2011 to 2015. The drop in age <\/span><span class=\"a\">may be attributed both to members retiring and to new <\/span><span class=\"a\">younger entrants to the business. This year, only 30 percent <\/span><span class=\"a\">are over 60 years old and four percent are less than 30, <\/span><span class=\"a\">consistent with last year. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff4\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span class=\"a\">Twelve percent of members who <\/span><span class=\"a\">have two years or less experience are under 30 years of age. <\/span><span class=\"a\">Limited inventory continues to plague many housing markets <\/span><span class=\"a\">in the United States. For the fourth year in a row, the difficulty <\/span><span class=\"a\">of finding the right property has surpassed the difficulty in <\/span><span class=\"a\">obtaining mortgage financing as the most cited reason <\/span><span class=\"a\">limiting potential clients. Impacted by limited inventory<span class=\"l7\">, the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">typical number of transactions rose slightly from 11 <\/span><span class=\"a\">transactions in 2015 to 12 transactions in 2016. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff4\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span class=\"a\">With rising <\/span><span class=\"a\">home prices again in 2016, the median brokerage sales <\/span><span class=\"a\">volume rose to $1.9 million from $1.8 million in 2015. <\/span><span class=\"a\">The median gross income of REALTORS\u00c2\u00ae was $42,500 in <\/span><span class=\"a\">2016, an increase from $39,200 in 2015. New members <\/span><span class=\"a\">entering the field have differences in income by experience, <\/span><span class=\"a\">function, and hours worked per week. Fifty-six percent of <\/span><span class=\"a\">members who have two years or less experience made less <\/span><span class=\"a\">than $10,000 in 2016 compared to 38 percent of members <\/span><span class=\"a\">with more than 16 years of experience who made more than <\/span><span class=\"a\">$100,000 in the same time period.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff14\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span class=\"a\">Jessica Lautz <\/span><span class=\"a\">Meredith Dunn <\/span><span class=\"a\">Brandi Snowden<\/span><span class=\"a\">\u00a0Amanda Riggs <\/span><span class=\"a\">Brian Horowitz <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff15\"><span class=\"a\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">May 2017<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff4\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span class=\"a\">REALTORS\u00ae with 16 years or more experience had a median <\/span><span class=\"a\">gross income of $78,850 up from $73,400 in 2015 <\/span><span class=\"a\">compared to REALTORS\u00ae with two years or less experience <\/span><span class=\"a\">that had a median gross income of $8,930 an increase from <\/span><span class=\"a\">$8,500.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ff4\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span class=\"a\">The typical member is an independent contractor affiliated <\/span><span class=\"a\">with an independent company catering to local markets. <\/span><span class=\"a\">REALTORS\u00c2\u00ae frequently have had careers in other fields prior <\/span><span class=\"a\">to real estate, the most common being in management, <\/span><span class=\"a\">business, and financial profess<span class=\"l6\">ions, followed by sales and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">retail. Only four percent indicated that real estate is their first <\/span><span class=\"a\">career.
